Our school’s Multicultural Liaison Officer (MLO) supports newcomer students and families with settlement services, navigating the school system, language interpretation, and more.
The Multicultural Liaison Officer (MLO) program provides support in multiple languages for students and families who are newcomers and refugees. The Multicultural Liaison Officer works with school staff to welcome newcomer families and connect them with important services, resources, and supports within our school and in the local community.
Safiah Aghliw is the Multicultural Liaison Officer at our school. Safiah speaks English and Arabic and can also help you access support in other languages.

Bio:
Safiah has been with OCISO since 2022. Safiah loves supporting and helping the newcomers.
Before joining OCISO, Safiah worked as a kindergarten teacher in Ottawa for 13 years. Safiah has a mathematics and business management degree.
In their free time, Safiah enjoys spending time with her cats, hiking, and biking. Safiah believes that “when you are talking to people, you have to TRULY listen to what they are saying and wait a few seconds before responding.”
